Do you have any shelves above it ? I don't have any issues with them just placing them against the wall but there's a known issue with shelves
If you don't, could you upload your house to the gallery and most it's name/your username here (if different from the one you're using to post) ?
After fighting with my game for about half an hour I figured out the shelving part as well. I was able to keep my shelving and fix my washer/drier by holding ALT and moving them slightly away from the wall. (Not really a FIX per say, but it works for now.)
No shelves above it but when the washing machines are against a wall they don't work. I can't put the house on the gallery unfortunately as my laptop corrupted itself and I had to wipe everything off my system
