Content Activation Not Working: Sony SecuROM Issues
I don't think this is a Sims Medieval problem, per se. I believe it's the new Sony SecuROM content activation that's now in many EA games. Therefore it's more an EA problem than a Sims Medieval problem, I'm just currently wanting to play Sims Medieval.
I've been playing Sims Medieval through Steam, bought the expansion Pirates and Nobles through it, and got hit with a new pop-up for content activation. No problem, I have all the keys through Steam, so I added the Pirates and Nobles one and...
"Product activation failed. This may be due to an invalid serial code or because an internet connection was not found. Please make sure you have connected to the internet and have entered a valid serial code."
Obviously I'm connected in the internet and the key is correct, so something else is going on. I checked the Steam forums, saw a lot of people having the same problem and someone suggested trying to play through Origin. So I registered both the main game and the expansion through Sims3 website and started up Origin (I play Sims 4 and DA: Inquisition through it, so no problem). Both games show up registered in my Origin just fine, but when I try to play them, the same new content activation popup appears and doesn't work there either. The error message is the same.
I browsed Steam info and found this patch note on Sims Medieval:
"By installing this Patch, you understand and agree that any Sony SecuROM content protection technology that protected your base game software will be removed and replaced by Content Activation content protection technology by Sony DADC Austria AG. This change will not affect your rights to access and use your base game software. The Content Activation software will ensure that any of your five remaining SecuROM machine licenses associated with your base game software are available for use on other machines and your rights to use and authenticate your base game software should otherwise be unaffected. You can still manage your authorizations yourself by following the de-authorization instructions found at http://activate.ea.com/deauthorize/."
The deauthorizing doesn't help at all, since that's not the problem. The problem is that I can't authorize the game to begin with, regardless of having the right keys. Until this is fixed, all of my EA games are unplayable since even Dragon Age: Origins did the popup for content activation that does not work.
Nutshell: there's no problem with the games, but the new Sony SecuROM content activation system does not work for me, therefore preventing me from playing any EA games. I'd really like to see this solved fast, I was eager to get into a pirate kingdom. :catfrustrated:
