Sims 1 on PC Installs but doesn't open game

I have been attempting to install and Sims 1 from a disc onto my PC. I have an external disc reader (as mine no longer works) and the game is able to be read, it shows up on my PC and installs fine. I have had to find a serial/install key online as the case for my game is loooooong gone. So far all good.

This is where I encounter my issue. I go to play the game but no matter what, it will not play. I try both resolutions (800 x 600 & 1024 x 768) and nothing actually happens. No errors, no pop ups, just minimises the Sims screen (where you select Play, Visit Sims.com, Demos, More Information, Exit)

I have searched online and followed a few different troubleshooting suggestions such as playing in compatibility mode with different operating systems (as suggested) and yet nothing will work. I am listing some PC info that might help the more tech-savvy people out there.

Edition Windows 10 Home

Processor Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G4560 @ 3.50GHz 3.50 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

I am really wanting to play this but have exhausted all suggestions that I can with my limited tech knowledge.

Thanks in advanced 🙂

  • @skyrockethoffman , have you used Graphics Rule Maker to add your graphics card to the game? Do a Google search to find the program and instructions on how to use it. Due to forum rules, we cannot link directly to the site.

  • I have downloaded Graphics Rule Maker but it only shows 2 games, Sims 2 and SimCity 4 am I doing something wrong? I have googled and it will only show these 2 games.

@skyrockethoffman , i think you can add other Sims games as well. I am not well versed in using this app. I think there is a website to check out what it can do.

  • Assuming the registration key isn't the problem, it is likely to do with the fact the DRM (copy protection) program that The Sims 1 used is very outdated and has a security issue. Because of that vulnerability in the program, Windows 10 doesn't have the DRM program on it. Without that program, The Sims 1 won't start. Some people have found ways around that, but I can't easily explain them in a way that would be both correct and easy to understand, because it's been a few years now since I looked into it. But knowing the DRM program could be the issue might help you find ways that help fix it!
