couldn't figure out where to put this, but I purchased the legacy birthday bundle. every time I try to download The Sims 1, it gets to 96% and then errors due to a C++ issue. would love to not have the installation fail everytime... I used to get this same type of error when trying to load Sims 3, luckily no more thanks to the recent update so thank you for that!
Update... I am now getting the same error message trying to download The Sims 2.
"Error: The VC++ runtime redistributable package was not installed successfully. Setup cannot continue. (1618)"
Hi, not sure if it will help in your case, but C++ is also causing an issue to run a game. ErmacsForceKin advised to uninstall and install again C++ in this thread The Sims 1 Crashes on Launch | EA Forums - 11850467 , so you can try the same thing before downloading the game.
caralaurenn Have you tried reinstalling the 2015 and newer VC++ runtimes? If not, please do so now, as the other reply suggested. More specific instructions are here, under "Game won't launch":

If that doesn't help, try the same but for your 2010 VC++ runtimes, and if that doesn't help either, replace the 2013 runtimes. You can find new copies (both x86 and x64 in both cases) here:
