The Legacy Challenge Mega Thread

Hi Pinstar! I've been following with interest the discussion of TS4 legacies at your site... even though raccoons are my natural enemies! :)

I see a lot of people posting over there that "there's no way to choose traits randomly" in TS4. You mentioned that you were planning to implement a random trait picker at your site, but in the meantime I thought I'd direct people to http://www.random.org/ . There are 35 traits in TS4, so you'd want to fill in 35 for the max number and click "generate" 3 times. (Simpler to find the trait you picked if you make a numbered list of them rather than counting through the icons in-game.) If one of the traits you pick is incompatible with an earlier one, just re-roll for that trait until you get one you can use.

If anybody is interested in a spreadsheet-based approach, I have a TS3 random game generator that I will probably adapt. It picks randomly among everything TS3 doesn't randomize, including starting world, species/supernatural type, number and age group of family members, number of pets and pet species. I used some weighting so as not to get way too many horses, for instance... but for most things, I set up the formulas so I could add additional items to my lists without redoing the calculations at all (the formulas automatically count the items in the list before picking). That makes it flexible for new options from EPs and the like.

If there are any other Excel geeks around, the formula I use to show the text of a random item in a vertical list of any length up to 100 (with no weighting), starting at cell B6, is as follows: =INDEX($B:$B,RANDBETWEEN(6,(5+COUNTA(B6:B106))),1)

Can easily use that on a list of TS4 traits :) Or anything else in the game you want to randomize (aspiration? career? heirs? etc.)

Anyway, Pinstar's articles really want me to do a TS4 legacy... with maybe even more randomization added ;) I like the challenge of having to adapt to my sims rather than the other way around.

I am going to have a trait picker ready to go with the release of the rules (or the game, ideally) on my website. It will have a surprise twist too, in how traits are calculated. :)

I cannot wait to play a Legacy in Sims 4. I'm really excited because this will be my first time actually attempting to create/add to my legacy house.. because I feel I'll really be able to build in the Sims 4. Sims 1-3 were very difficult for me.. :( A lot of my houses were square-shaped, LOL. (I think at the middle-end of Sims 3 I started to get a little better about building, however, they seemed to kind of resemble the same styles.. ) I hope to change that in Sims 4. :)

I will be recreating my Sims 3 family (Just the two adults -- The female is the one in my Avatar.); and it will be a long legacy as I enjoy this family very much... so, it'll definitely take me a lot longer to reach generation 2. Because I want them to have a big family. :D

I can't wait to see the rules to the challenge so I can start planning. I want to plan a floor plan for their house(for later, of course), and then start planning what type of things I want them to be interested in. In Sims 3, Elijah was into inventing; so I might have him start working on Woodworking. :) (Depending on the rules of course, and if it's affordable.); and Freya.. I'm thinking cooking and gardening, hehe. (I know this isn't the traditional way to play.. as I'll already have Freya a Spouse.. ) but I'll have a second save where I start with one founder :).

D; I'm trying really hard not to plan too much since I don't know much about the game-play, or the rules to the challenge... but the more I look at the new pictures/videos etc that came out after Creators Camp, the more excited I get and end up planning anyways. *falls over.*

I'll be all over this when the game comes out! I adore playing legacy.

Thanks for doing this Pinstar, can't wait to play a Sims 4 legacy! I think the new build tools will make it easier to adjust the legacy house as the generations progress.
