Will it be open world
I loved The Sims 3 and a big part of that was because of the open world (I actually didn’t buy the Sims 4 because it wasn’t there but now it’s free…) So I’m wondering if this game will have one or not?

@Anonymous , I agree with you on having each section, or district be open ... we almost have that in the Sims 4, but only the common areas, and not when we go into other houses.😢 I did not like the Sims 3 open world, but it would make more sense if we could go to the next door neighbor's house without a loading screen! 😉
@PugLove888Yes. For me, it would be a step beyond Sims 2/ Sims 4 in that we can press the map button and "zoom out" to see the whole neighborhood *without* a loading screen. you can't do that in both games.
Note it would *not* be a stylized 2D picture of a neighborhood but more like a Sims 3 world in 3D
*Unlike* Sims 3, the whole world wouldn't be simulated. This causes massive problems...it's not optimized! I think splitting the game in sections, or districts as I call them, where it's simulated makes the most sense. Kind of like Sims 2 where you go to a community lot and you have Sims that are generated from object data to exist in that lot. This would happen but instead of a lot, it would be a section of the neighborhood.
That would be my ideal simulation game.
@Anonymous , it sounds like I would like that as well, if I'm understanding you correctly! The reason I hated TS3's open world is that my Sim would often go to a community lot and nobody would be there.😓 I would stay for hours and nobody would come, especially at night, which was difficult for my Sims who worked a shift that was like 3 pm to 11 pm! 😠😠 Because it was after work that I would have them try to socialize. By the time another Sim would show up, my Sims would be so exhausted that I would have to have them go home! 🤦♀️😢 I tried getting them up early and have them socialize then, before work, but then I would sometimes run intio the same problem and wouldn't find someone to talk to before work and then their needs would be depleted going to work! 😣
The only thing I liked the open world for was searching for rocks and bugs 🥳... I'm not counting seeds because they were so tiny they were near impossible to find unless you and your Sim were right upon them! 🔎😫 I was so glad TS4 ditched finding seeds in the wild!😅
Yes, I agree that districts would be much more manageable for most computers! 😎
@jonathanemptage , Exactly! 🥰
99% no, they say you can play the sims even on your smartphone, and can the hardware of a smartphone, handle an open world like the sims? I don't think so. Obviusly glad to be wrong.
I hope so. I hope 99% of the map won't be just set dressings like Sims 4. And that the map is editable.
I too was one of those who took one look at ts4 and said no way! That's a downgrade not an upgrade. Until it became free, that's when I decided to give it a shot. It's failing miserably! 😭
Anyway, I suspect that the open-world part might be the online world, and your sim lot will be in a neighborhood like TS-1…4
Although this will interfere with us players need to control everything in our world, and suggests caw will not be included. I hope we get caw from the start.
Otherwise, like has been said, all platforms won't support open world, so the components that work on your phone ect. May be limited to simply building a lot and status checking Sims. Btw I hope it's not real time based. When I close my game I want everyone to stay EXACTLY where I put them.
@y34827d6j9c7 This is an interesting argument, but don't forget the target of EA, is reach much people possible for this game, like the sims 4, a game made with a lot of compromise, like the vanish of the open world , not because is to hard to program it (in gaming industry is the normality reuse old asset for optimize the time spent to create a new project), but for reach all possible players, in fact, the open world, requires a lot of hardware resource to calculate in real time all things present in the scenario, and not everyone had such high-performance machine can handle it (yeah, maybe work on optimization can help, but requires a lot of time, specially in the pc world, when there's an incredible number of different configurations), so they decide to cut off open world, with this manouver, even the low/medium end pc can handle the game, and i suppose the same thing it will happen with project rene, and yes, i suppose even for smartphone world, the 50$ low end phone maybe can't handle it, but i'm not surprised if EA want the 100$ low end phone can handle the game, so, it is wise to keep the expectations low.
