Can't open the character folder

Sometime last night all my sims tasks got cancelled most were over halfway through before I left the application.  I wake up this morning expecting to have finished the last task for the arid apartment day and get the last two granite I need plus a plethora of x sim finished work notifications.

 Instead all of the sims are laying about and none of the quests finished. Annoyed I restarted every single task and low and behold every single time I touch the blue file folder to change character the game crashes. Which means no one can change location which means my get glass shard task has been impossible to start cause no one can go to the pool. It also means that I only have one person at the apartment working on tasks and the sims are just stand around work hours after they finished, and I can't send anyone new to work.

I have restarted the phone and updated the application multiple times and nothing has changed. I'm quite upset that my timed tasks are being ruined by your glitches.
