Sims finished work early

Hi, 4 of my sims were at their profession posts (movie studio and police station) and all had more than 40 mins and still some more customers left to help. Then I visited another sim of mine that was on another sim town but when I got back to my own town, all my sims had finished working… Is it because the cloud updated when I traveled and it corrected the time or something, any ideas?
