I have exactly the same iPad model and the same issue as you do. ☹️
Fortunately it will be fixed, not sure when, but it was mentioned here a month ago: "The team is working on making The Sims Mobile accessible for more iPad models. This means support for even more iPad resolutions to ensure players have the best experience."

I wrote about this issue last year in April when I got my new iPad Pro and it still hasn't been fixed. Sounds like EA isn't devoting much support to this product and will end up having to just get rid of the app since it's ridiculous to play.
