The harm is it takes away from the game. Also EA wants you to spend as much time as possible on this app, and you can't blame them for it. That's why this game exists.
This is completely wrong. It takes nothing away from the game. In fact, it adds something, a very useful feature. Collecting from each building is repetitive and time consuming, and is only a small aspect of the game. The OP and those of us who agree with him want an option added that allows us to collect it by using that option. If you feel it "takes away" from the game (a ludicrous opinion, sorry, but it's true), you don't have to use the feature.
EA also probably DON'T want players to spend as much time as possible of the app for several reasons. For one, more players playing for longer periods of time puts more strain on the servers, for one. Also, people playing for longer periods of time may mean they're less likely to spend donuts (premium players spend donuts on premium items and buildings, but they also often spend donuts to speed up tasks, etc, which is directly the opposite of spending more time on the game).
The idea that an autocollect feature (or preferably a building like Tax Collector or something similar) would harm the game or be antithetical to the game's purpose is completely incorrect.

What I'm trying to say is that the point of a game is to play it, not to just log on, hit a button then log off.
And what we're trying to say is that you seem to be missing the fact that the point of the game isn't merely tapping buildings to collect money. Theres more to do than that. You're also missing the point that continuously tapping each building to collect that money and XP is boring and a chore. That isn't something most people enjoy. And if you think about it, gameplay, even as basic as it is in this game, should be enjoyable and fun, not a chore. This solution solves that problem while still allowing you personally to ignore that feature and tap buildings individually.

The problem with the button is how would it be applied- only for buildings that have handshakes? All buildings at once? Does it also include auto-tap for characters?
And how much would it cost? Would it be part of the tutorial levels? Premium item for a lot of donuts? An aspirational item that costs $10 million or more?
The Achilles Heel for the "collect all" is applying it, if it collects every building then it's hurting your town since you might not have anything for people to tap. If it collects only handshakes then it is extremely useful but useless during events that don't require you to tap buildings.
Not really. Someone earlier in the thread had the idea that it's customizable, and it's a fantastic approach:

I agree with the OP. There are several reasons why and I will list a few.
1. The sheer size of how big this game has become. For long time players, and especially premium players such as myself it is now a HUGE chore to collect all the handshakes, tasks, event items/currency, etc. every time we go to our towns. In the beginning I doubt the developers had any idea of just how big and lengthy this game would be.
2. Ease of collection. Sometimes, well most of the time, my town is teeming with activity whether it be from the current event, handshakes, or any random task my characters are on. Having the ability to collect all of a certain thing would help a LOT with the simple tap of an icon.
3. People with limited time/connection issues. This doesn't pertain to me, but those who have limited windows with bad internet, or device issues could get more done while still being able to enjoy the game.
Now, I'm not saying to make it mandatory that the game plays this way, but what harm would it do if there was a setting screen that looked like this?
Collection Settings
0 - Collect all handshakes per tap
0 - Collect all money on tap
0 - Collect on all complete tasks
0 - Collect ALL
Now those 0's would be clickable boxes to either turn on or off the settings. This would help streamline things and make it a lot smoother for those who would just like to go into their town and "get the business done" and go back to whatever they need to.
I also feel that there should be some requirement to get these settings unlocked. I would say at least be level 40 AND have completed all the main story line with all the buildings up to that point built. With this being a setting that a player could turn on and off, the players who didn't want to use this feature could leave the game as is.
Look back not too long ago when we got the update where the characters list was added to the upper left corner. What a profound impact that something as simple as that made. Gone were the days of having to hunt through a town to make sure all your characters were making money, and having to shadow buildings/decorations to find some, but you could just tap that icon and BOOM you knew who was free and who wasn't.

No. If tou are lazy, just quit the game. Players who want this should be rallied up and be mocked up in one town. Called lazy town.
Also moderators who want to change the inherit nature of the game shpuld be stripped of their title. Only a giant facepalm is in order.
Again, you're narrowing the gameplay of this game down to only one feature, and literally the most boring feature of the game. Furthermore, you helped boil it down by calling people "lazy" for being sick of collecting buildings manually. I've been doing so for over two years. It's old. It's not fun. The other aspects of the game are, but not that. Wake up and understand that it's an option, not a mandate (ironically those opposed to the idea are mandating it doesn't happen).
Players who don't want this should be examined for masochistic qualities, or at the very least extremely low IQs. Only an idiot would be opposed to this idea, after all. ;)

I agree, if you want all the cash from your buildings you need to work/tap for it.
It occurs to me that a lot of people posting in this thread don't understand games are supposed to be fun... not work. Work is work. Game's are for relaxation. Please understand that.
