How does not having to spend time on a mindless chore "take away from the game"?
You still have to tap for a variety of other reasons. Does endlessly tapping on buildings just to collect money somehow make the game more fun/rewarding? No - it's a pain and a drag. It adds nothing to the experience other than annoyance.
There have been other nods toward "convenience". Most seemed really happy with the Christmas lights plunger - did it "take away from the game" that I didn't have to individually have to turn on/off those lights? Nope - it was great that I didn't need to bother with the monotony.
This seems to be a hot-button issue for some, and I don't get it. If you still want to tap all those buildings, go for it - no one would force you to use a "collect all" option...
