Players who are at the point in the game where it's $17,000/square are not "just starting out". They've been playing a long time and likely have loads of money. Are you going to complain about a tiny building that cost over $1 million and doesn't really do much? Because you'll encounter that eventually.
You've gone months without buying buildings? Just to accumulate money? But yet you seem focused on Squidport a lot. How many tiles have you bought? How many building have you put there? I mostly ignored building out Squidport besides the very bare minimum until I was forced to add to it later in the game. I'm kinda paying for it now as I have to wait a while between tiles. I have all the needed buildings there, but if I want to design more there then I'll need more tiles. I wish I had bought like a tile a week in my early days just to stock up (while still ignoring building out Squidport).
Have you actually USED all the tiles you bought? How much did you have to spend in water squares to get enough space for them? I'm just curious why you're focusing on Squidport instead of enjoying the regular quest lines.
I have like 18 unused boardwalk pieces. I only have enough water land to fit the initial squidport entrance and to build a few buildings. I guess maybe 2 land squares worth of boardwalk pieces are currently out.
I went through long stretches of not building anything to accumulate money because every time I'd advance the storyline and build something I'd be almost broke again so I wanted to have enough to keep going smoothly and have some extra for decor and such.
