I believe this is a multiple glitch problem.
Having a second town I get notifications that my other self has visited me up to 24 hours after I actually did the Friend Actions.
I get multiple notifications on things. I typically get at least 3 notifications that abearsanta (my other town) has visited my wadebear town every day. Sometimes more.
I don't think all Present drops are registering.
I don't think all gift taps are registering - you tap a Present and the counter that keeps track of how many are in your town doesn't go down.
The other day I did an exhaustive search for Presents in both my towns. I moved everything and looked behind it all (you don't have to drop stuff somewhere else: just move it, look behind it, then cancel the move and it pops back where it was). I finally located all the Presents in my wadebear town, but there were 2 I couldn't find in my abearsanta town. I don't think they're there - I think the counter is wrong.
Side note: you can tap the Drop Present button then cancel the drop. That way you can test to see if a town can accept Presents without actually dropping any. Really only useful if you have a second town...
Check behind your Homertron - you can't see Presents behind it when it's 'ghosted'. I stored the bleachers from my Tap Ball stadium and moved my Wailing Walls into a corner. I also found one Present 'hidden' among the Jack O'lanterns in my Halloween area - it's easy to overlook Presents mixed in with other small decorations.
