I read it all, and I'm a young teenager. I find some of the comments about my generation as the 'throwaway' generation with 'a sense of self-entitlement' stereotypical, we aren't all lazy, arrogant vampires that can't bear the sunlight and stare at screens all day. I know all about playing outside and growing up on a farm, I'm surrounded by fields and cattle.
The OP's post was too long (I repeat, I read it all) and the message was basically the game isn't and shouldn't be free. I agree, I'm a premium player, but we didn't need your life story.
You're a KID? When I've read your posts all these months, I pictured you as a mid-30's adult.
Well, since you're a young teen, I feel obligated -- as an old woman -- to order you to stop playing and go finish your homework. Its my duty to keep the young on the right path.

I am probably the same generation as the OP and not the generation that is being discussed in the post.
I turn 36 this year.
I will admit that because of the popularity of this thread I went back and read the original post.
Although I do agree with a lot of what you say it feels like you are lecturing.annettemarc wrote:
Hey, Maxxspider -- get your meme ready! (I love that woman's affect ... and her scarf is priceless.)
emymarek, You said in an earlier post to eliansukke:
"But I will stand by my original point: it's wrong to complain about something that you've been given for free."
(BTW, you and I will need to agree to vehemently disagree on that issue. My parents never would accept anything inferior -- whether free or not. If my brother mowed the next door neighbor's lawn for free and did a poor job of it, he'd get hit from every side -- my parents AND the neighbor. I believe the snarky way of putting it was "Don't do me any favors". People weren't afraid to tell my brother that his work was crap. That was a value I grew up with. Never be satisfied with anything shoddily done, whether by yourself or by others -- free or paid.)
But back to that quote ... that it's wrong to "complain". I sincerely hope you won't mind (this is not a challenge, btw) telling me which of the items on my list below you would consider a "complaint." Because obviously you're not putting a muzzle on us. I know there's a line at which you would label something a complaint. Would you tell me which of these is a complaint to you? (I numbered them for convenience. Hope that's okay.) :)
TO PREFACE:
I purposely chose a non-event-related "problem" -- something long-term, about the game itself, and not about "events". (NOTE: Pretend the character finder wasn't there! Please!)
Pick the numbers of the ones that are not complaints, okay?
1. The untasked characters blend into the background for me. It's hard to put them on task. Anyone else having this problem?
2. The untasked characters blend into the background too much for us to easily put them on task. I wish they had made it so we had a way to find them.
3. The untasked characters blend in too much. Next time, I hope they realize their mistake.
4. The untasked characters blend in too much. They should fix that.
5. I can't find my characters. They should have made untasked characters visually stand out in the first place.
6. I can't find my characters. If they knew what they were doing, they'd give us a way to find them fast.
7. Don't they know we can't see the untasked characters?
8. What genius came up with the idea that the untasked characters should be impossible to see?
9. This is awful. I can't see the characters so I can't play the game. Do they expect me to be a magician?
10. They know we can't play this event without finding the characters, and we can't find them. This game sucks.
11. At least you can get into your game. (Couldn't resist, folks.)
12. Add me.
I know there's a line you'd draw. Is it the wording that bothers you? Because those all mean the same thing -- we couldn't find untasked characters. (Well, the first ten anyway.)
Unfortunately, no matter WHICH style of wording we use, someone comes charging into the thread and labels the entire THREAD a complaint. They don't wait for the "This game sucks" level. They start in as soon as we mention something is a problem. Because, as they point out, we should be happy for what we have because it was free.
Incidentally, I'm pretty sure our threads about not finding the characters led to the addition of the character finder. It was "discussed" on all of those levels I numbered above -- for months. They finally did it. Perhaps it was because of our discussion about what a hard time we were having.
But I can't prove that was why they added it.
However, the addition of the character finder DOES contradict something you said in the first post:
But if all they hear are complaints, they're not going to give MORE... why should they? If what they've already given hasn't been appreciated, then at what point will they be appreciated? When they've given everything away for free?
Your initial (rather eloquent) post described the wonders of the new. A new product ("free" or otherwise) would never come on the market without complaints about the shortcomings of the existing one. Businesses don't do things ("free" or otherwise) that won't bring in a profit. We'd still be playing Pong (three cheers for memory lane)
Nope. The wording doesn't bother me at all. I have no quarrel with your post, whatsoever. :)annettemarc wrote:

While it is a generalization, having worked the past decade with kids of all ages, I have seen a definitive shift. There is a sense of entitlement, lack of accountability and an overall mindset of, I want what I want, I want it now, and in the easiest way possible.
I'm sure everyone doesn't meet that definition, but a lot of what gets posted here does.
Then again it really isn't a surprise...
Maybe this is what happens when you don't allow scores in little league games. Have no trophies for field day, instead giving every kid a ribbon that says "if you had fun today you won". Or having your Mom go to the school and complain/blame a teacher for her kid getting a bad grade instead of facing the root of the problem (exs of things ive seen)...
I try to co e here for news, but I usually wind up frustrated reading the posts. I have to remember there are more, more civil sites dedicated to the game.
I enjoyed the event despite not getting 3 of the main prizes. The way I see it, if they were easy to get they wouldn't be special.
I'd still be playing it had my game not updated automatically today....hey....maybe I should sue EA because its not fair other people are still playing Easter...I at least better go starta thread to complain, because I need my anger validated. :p
Agreed! It's so sad to see how schools h ave taken the fun out of competition. And not just schools! Even in professional teams! We're so afraid of teaching kids that, if you work hard, and train hard, you can win! That 'w' word has almost become a 4-letter word! It's so sad.
I'm stunned. Have you not been reading the hundreds of complaints about the Easter event?
You think kids aren't being taught the work ethic???? I sort of thought that the work ethic was what the kids are DEMANDING in this Easter event. They WANT to work hard and get something for working hard.
Even in a GAME.
They do NOT want to sit back and spin a wheel and be happy for what they happen to get by touching a button.
Not even in a GAME.
By your comments, it would seem they want the sit-back-and-spin option. NOT EVEN IN A GAME. I'm pretty sure that believing in being-rewarded-for-hard-work is what we WANT them to get used to.
Seems to me, from the complaints about this event, parents and teachers are doing a pretty good job of getting them ready for being productive, and for NOT expecting something for nothing.
Me? Personally, I think the work ethic is ptui. Worked out well for me and mine, but I've seen far, far, far too many people work a lifetime and follow all the platitudes about working long hours and two jobs and end up with squat. Real life IS what this Easter Event was about ... work your butt off, spend your life turning the little hamster wheel, and discover that, in the end, it's all determined by a rigged wheel, with odds astronomically against you. And to think I spent my first 55 years as an ultraconservative.
And PLEASE don't get me started on students. My husband, son, niece, other niece, sister-in-law, aunt, other sister-in-law, two nephews and soon my other son are high school teachers. In everything from inner city to upscale suburb, in Boston, San Diego, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Iowa. My husband - 28 years, my sister-in-law -- 20 years, and on and on. The shortest has been my younger son. Everyone else has a MINIMUM of 10 years. Every one of them has seen "change".
Change? You BET it's changed. It is TERRIFYING what we've done to the students over the past decade. They're robots. Little Standardized Student-Robots. In the past, we could have a term of high school where we'd mess up, get D's and have to repeat classes and move on. But today's students? They need to start planning for their lives when they're freakin' 12 years old. 6th grade class schedule better get you ready for Honors classes in 7th grade. 7th grade? Better get that advanced math so you can get into honors in 8th grade. And if you don't get on that track soon, the train leaves the station and never comes back.
Make a misstep, and so long to a decent college. Standardized tests year after year and college level classes and no textbooks. I'd rather have a hot poker stuck in my eye than be a high school student today. We're turning them into little Stepford Students. This is definitely gonna come back to haunt us. They can't go their whole lives without this finally blowing up in our faces.
But maybe it's just a bizarre coincidence that all the relatives I have who are teachers (I'm sure I missed some) have identical stories to tell about what we're doing to students.
Don't know which school system you've spent the last decades teaching in. If it's different there, PLEASE send me the name of the school. My son who's in his credential classes right now is willing and able to relocate.

I think you and I read something different in his post. It happens. :)cathyfitz245 wrote:
Let me start this by saying I'm a grandmother, so I think I've experienced much of my life as you have, Emymarek721. And if some think my post is too wordy, sorry, but I won't need the critique. If you don't have the time to read it, you won't need to take the time tell me.
If I may summarize your OP (which I enjoyed reading, btw), this quote is what your main point is: "I just wish that the complaining about not getting enough for free would stop."
That I agree with completely. It would be like someone going to Costco (a club warehouse in my area) and complaining about the FREE food samples: not large enough, not good enough, not enough variety, not what one likes.
But what I think many posters misunderstand: This is NOT really a free game; just like Costco is not in the business of giving away free food. Sure the game is free if that's the route you choose, and I find it's much better in that regard than most other freemiums, as you can actually stay with the game for as long as you'd like without ever having to spend money to continue.
But the focus, the raison d'etre, of the game is to get players to spend money - just like Costco wants to entice their customers to buy the food they've given out as samples.
I am a premium player, and have spent over $150 on this game. Of course it was my choice and I wasn't forced into buying donuts. The one, overwhelming complaint regarding this event is that when money/donuts were spent, we got a chance at a prize, not a prize. In fact, not even a close chance. I have been playing and paying money on this game since December 2012, and this is not what the game had been in the past. It would be like going to Costco to buy food and suddenly having to buy a chance at food, and then not even get the food I needed or wanted. Sure, I could walk away from Costco and go to Jewel or Whole Foods, but before I left I sure would make my complaints known.
Complaints about not getting enough for free are hard to stomach, but it won't have the slightest effect on this game. But the premium players, those that financially support the game and therefore any future events or levels, have plenty to complain about.
My biggest fear about this game that I have financially supported is that they are running it into the ground to get the last dollars they can before making it so frustrating and impossible to continue playing that we quit them before they drop the game from their servers.
I've agreed with this several times throughout this thread. Perhaps you just didn't see it? :) If not, then I'll repeat myself because you took the time to speak out about your feelings:
I agree with those who have spent money and are frustrated. And you have every right to be. :)barrymcerlea wrote:
