It's going to happen. It will most likely just be the station and/or the wreckage so don't worry about rails.
The interesting thing will be to see how EA can make an event out of that. Especially with a Phil Hartman character being so central.
edit- Also Leonard Nimoy offered to us for 180 donuts :D :D :D
it better be just the wreckage don't know about the rest of you but i won't be building a working monorail
hopefully they don't make a event out of it either that would be a waste when there's way better event ideas floating around on this forum- I bet the developers at EA have talked about the Monorail many times but have avoided it for the very reasons people have listed here. Great in theory, very difficult in practice. But it would be a shame to waste the Monorail idea by just putting out a building that is the Monorail wreckage. I don't see how that amounts to an event either; at best, it'd just be worthy of being an FP prize. If you want to make a whole event like Stonecutters, you need a working Monorail with stations.
But I'm more in favor of a big Monorail with tracks than some others are. Frankly, if you don't have much land, couldn't you just downsize your Monorail? It wouldn't need to circumnavigate your entire town. Also, the track and pillars wouldn't have to be huge; they could be made thin and only one square wide to avoid taking up too much space or obscuring buildings and characters. Personally, I wouldn't enjoy having to demolish my whole town to place it, but I could acquire the train, then buy a bunch of tracks to store and place whenever I had the time and opportunity to gradually work on it.
Plus, what other great event ideas are there, other than the holidays? Whacking Day and Stonecutters have now been done. The Monorail is an obvious next choice. - how big is it and how is this monorail gonna work?

Will you send him by the devil?- Where would it go :?: you'd have to clear masses of land to lay the track and build the station. I've already suggested Krustyland would be ideal as we acres of unused grasslands. :?
- jukan00New SpectatorJust re-watched the episode and I'm hoping we get giant robot ants as a decoration.
- I still believe that EA watch this forum and see what we all want and keep us hanging on for those particular items ;) Personally i dont believe the monorail will appear in the game, being it is a complex item to add and could cause more issues, that being said i would like the monorail to be added :)

This is the most obvious and easiest update that could happen.
Rail tracks will lay the same way as road and pavement. We'll have to buy them individually just like the Squidport Tiles, w/ gradual increases in the price of tracks. Throw in a free building/character combo w/ a couple premium items. Unlock the Homer Conductor skin, etc.
Defo one way to make the track :)
I have mentioned this before with how to build it, but the thing that does concern me is you would need to take out some roads or possibly buildings to land down the monorail in its place which also means you would run out of land which is getting hard to come by now- AnnathewickedRising Traveler
