Sorry to break it to you, but your argument, while on the surface appears valid, isn't. Allow me to cite precedent.
Barney/the Bowlarama did not cost donuts, but is now available. For donuts.
Miss Springfield/Sleezy Motel did not cost donuts, but is now available. For donuts.
Tatum...you see where I'm going with this, I've quite sure.
If they made the Duff Racer available for donuts, people would buy it. Period. If people bought it, EA would make money. Period.
This. can. NOT. be. argued. It has already been PROVEN. People buy Tatum/Barney/Miss Springfield. There is a market for past items. If you don't believe me, just ask Allen Cox.
The difference here is that the items listed were a premium currency similar to donuts. They were not "free" like the Duff Racer where it was just dumped to the inventory. Miss Springfield was valued in snakes, as was Tatum. Barney was valued in Santa coins. This was just an exchange of premium currencies.
I know the work can be done, as we see with those mentioned. But the items like Duff Racer I'm sure are coded differently since they just pop in the inventory and was never technically purchased with any form of currency (snakes, coins, treats, hearts, money, donuts). My main point is that those items deemed as "free" vs. "purchased (whether with ANY currency or in-game money). Also we have not seen a free - to cost scenario.
I'm quite interested to see the sales figures of previously available content that was purchased for donuts. Are they selling as well as you say? I would think excellent sales would lead them to bring back other previously available content. I'm thinking that the majority of the people who do own them, got them during the events. I'm thinking there's not as huge of an opportunity for that much extra cash if the items are not selling. Sure some would buy them, but perhaps people wouldn't want them.
Is the Duff Racer worth 40-50 donuts (similar to other vehicles, also acknowledging it will provide a 0% bonus - and you can only have 1 of them). Or would someone see a police car worth the same, and gives 2% bonus as a better deal? I'm sure there's a reason why they are not for sale, just that no one can provide that answer unless you work at EA. I don't see them charging like 20 donuts for it.
I'm sure you and some others on this board would jump at 40-50 donuts for it, but does that 1-10 members here equate to decent sales for the rest of the players out there that also do not have the item?
Again I'm all for them charging donuts for every item previously released, and all for the no limited time items (would rather all items be permanently available).theredjacket wrote:

Now, if someone wants to present a GOOD reason why they should stay gone (being immature about being exclusive or claiming that EA cannot come up with an inventive way to bring episode tie-ins back are not good reasons). Good reasons for bringing them are extra money for EA (which in turn leads to a longer game for us), it's not fair to screw over new people, there is almost no additional work or coding to make items accessible that have already been designed and implemented, etc.
It's not fair to screw over "old" (for lack of a better word) people. While they are petty and childish there are people who will feel screwed over if everything is re-released and if you upset those people and they stop playing and EA stops making money then EA would be sad, because EA likes money. That's why, as I previously stated:theredjacket wrote:
EA needs to keep the people frothing at the mouth for new Limited Time items while also keeping those people who are missing a few items happy by offering a slow trickle of previously released content.
It's simply the best business model, the model that makes them the most money.
Now your main error in argument:
"a GOOD reason why they should stay gone " a good reasons to return previously released content
EA is not interested in Good. EA is interested in cash and they make tons of it, obviously whatever they are doing is working to their favour so Id assume theyll just keep doing it.
Some might even say EA is evil, and that EA is the Worst Company in America (two years in a row) and EA obviously knows you, thats why they referenced you in their game and honestly, whats more fun than watching you squirm and complain because you missed out on items?
How would the older players be screwed over by re-releasing old items? It has zero effect on them, and no one is going to quit because of it. And if you find 1 psychopath out there who does quit because they are being bratty about older items being re-released, I will find you 20 million people who are going to pay real money for it. EA is a business and wants to make money. They don't care about what 500 bratty whiners have to say. They care about the wallets of 30 million people. But again, I'd love to hear how older players are being screwed by re-releasing old items.
I've never owned a video game that rewards early buyers, and I own MANY video games. I didn't even have an iPhone in October. This isn't a reward, its just a punishment.
You've never owned a video game that offered a pre-order bonus?
Many games reward people for paying for a game before it is even released. This is a very poor argument on your behalf.
Also, any games offer exclusive content to one game system or another, so for all the android folks they could just think of the content they missed as exclusive apple friendly content.
I've pre-ordered many games and I've never received a copy that was different than the others as far as game content is concerned. The cartridge may have been different or it may have come with an extra collectible of some sort, but the content is the content. I'd say the poor argument comes from you as the two situations are not comparable and you're grasping for straws at this point.JoshSherer wrote:

The only thing that comes close is special offers. For instance Nintendo's Ambassador program for the 3DS. You had to own it before 8/13/12 and you got 20 free games. 10 of which are not available to everyone else. However, this is concerning a variety of games, and not specific to the issue at hand which is within the game itself. No game have I played where content is locked to people that buy it later. Unless it's a game that is no longer supported such as an older Call of Duty DLC pack, or perhaps Guitar Hero where the store was taken down due to the company shutting down.- To be fair...
Often preordered console games come with two types of bonuses:
1. Tangible items (maps, statues, books, etc)
2. Virtual/add-on content that actually impacts the game itself
In 98% of situations I've seen... virtual content is always made available (after a waiting period often) to the public eventually, for a price.
Just stating. :) - Those selfish nutter-butters that want these items to remain off the menu can take solace in knowing they paid less for anything that "comes back".
Isn't that enough? It's not like a rare baseball card you can show off to your friends, it's a friggin' game graphic that only you see! (or visiting neighbors)
Get over the "me only" mindset you selfish peeps! People who just discovered the game can never enjoy what you discovered last year? That's weak. That's selfish.
Jeebus would not approve! - I don't think there's many people (or at all) in this topic that is stating for it to remain exclusive. I support the idea of bringing them back. I was merely providing discussion.
- IMHO, this thread was destined to be a huge disappointment. Whatever next week brings, I'm thinking october will be a great month for this game.

To be honest, this whole month was a write off. First we have people who want to socialize vs. people who just want to talk about the game. Then we have this.
It can't really be helped though. Everybody has an opinion, and EA can only do so much to please everybody. But we have OT back and the Halloween updates are not going to change at this point. Despite what we all think, right now, these arguments are futile. No matter what anybody says, no matter how sound their reasoning is, no matter how badly they want people to see things from their point of view, it is futile. It just doesn't matter.GreasedWilly wrote:
please can I be a selfish nutter. I started playing about a month before whacking day and have missed out a number of things, but once I have those things then I shall petition EA to make sure no-one else gets them. Perhaps if I pay them enough they'll take them off everyone else. ;)

I didn't know you could pre-order Tapped Out? What was your bonus? Was it free?
