I would hope releasing more land wouldn't result in a major lag issue for players with older phones, but if so I could see them doing a workaround by only having sections of towns load/appear/render at a time. You're only able to zoom out so much anyway, so say the section of your town, say the center is where your game always starts, that loads first. As you move upwards that section loads in the background and is visible when you move to it. Granted if people zoom all over there town very quickly there may be some lag, but it may be an idea on how to reduce the overall lag for players with older phones, so that we can all get some new land (even if it's only a strip of land).
