I suggested a long time ago that we need to pick One item and if it is placed in X spot or in front of something, like maybe a hail ants sign in the Simpson lawn means on vacation. It won't be 100 present accurate as somebody may already have that placed there as a normal deco but I think we could come up a deco list that is code.
EDIT maybe we could do it Morse code like with traffic cones as dot's and boardwalk benches as dashes? Just a thought as some newer players won't have jack o lanterns, they make a nice "o" and placed in landing zone?
I liked the idea of placing the hail ants sign on the Simpson Lawn, then realized many of my neighbors towns are so chaotic or large it would be a chore to search for it. Placing it in the landing zone (temporarily it wouldn't ruin the decor) might work.
I'm not sure how successful it was using the sign during last summer's Clash of Clones event.
I never see hail ants signs, that was are old go to for notification . I'm just going along with Neuros suggestion and guidelines, we can't discuss this forever. I thought it worked fine for CoC.
I actually have one out that I do use as a decoration (in front of my news station). I also know others who use it as a decoration. That's why this probably isn't the way to go - too confusing, and people may not understand what it means unless they happen upon the one thread that says this is what you should do if you are away (which would likely get buried). Also, as someone else has mentioned, people would have to go searching for it - most people do their visits fast and would not take the time to look if it was anywhere other than the landing zone.
I like using the sign as just a simple decoration. I think any signs used for this purpose would have to be special signs introduced by EA that specify if you are away etc. (I think Annette brought this up before).
EDIT: I agree with Neuroheart - at this time there is no way that is better than leaving a quick message here in GD. It is relevant to the game, catches people's eyes if they are your neighbour (because your name is right in the topic) and is the most efficient way to reach the most people at this time.
