I don't know enough about programming in games to say but maybe someone else who is more well versed can comment: how difficult would it be to program something, logistically, for KL during an event?
It would be as easy as programming it for Springfield I would imagine. I would be very surprised if it was actually the programmers who made decisions about what was going to be included in the game though. - I am not on the conspiracy wagon, that is was broken on purpose. I have not been visiting KL that much though. I am planning on spending some solid time on KL after the event though. Once I get enough tickets, I want to redesign the area.
- I don't think it was broken on purpose. I have been trying to ask support about it all week but the wait times are ridicules! I hope they fix it soon.
- I usually go twice a day to pop balloons but not anymore. I occasionally go to see if it is fixed but don't bother collecting tickets.
- I go twice daily as part of my check-in routine (when the 8hr tasks are done & Sideshow You was up). Have nearly 250k tickets, so tempted to convert to $ as I'm nearly able to afford Oil-Rig KB (my last aspirational).
Happy with my design at the moment - could afford to buy tons more land, but there's no point when there's nothing new to put there.
It only takes a min or so to collect from, and I've been getting 5 donuts every 1.5mths like clockwork, so I'd OF COURSE I'd love SSY to return. :P - wadebearRetired HeroI've been going there several times a day - ever since I realized it synchronized my game with the server. Plus there are some 4 hour tasks for some of my characters there that don't have them in Springfield. That's how I play: set everyone on a task of the same length (if possible) and come back when the timer goes off.
- When sideshow you works I go daily. Now it's abot every 2 or 3 days

I think I'm in the minority who actually enjoys Krustyland almost as much as Springfield - a couple months ago I nuked my KL and have had a lot of fun rebuilding it. I think the thing I enjoy most about it is that unlike Springfield, there is no shortage of available space there, making it much easier to do more large scale designs without severely limiting the amount of available space for other objects.
To the OP's idea that EA shut down Sideshow You intentionally in order to gauge player interest in Krustyland, I think there would be far easier ways to do this than what you suggest they may have done. I would imagine that data is kept or can be collected on how often players go there and what they do once they're there.
EA can pull a report of how much access there is to the KL servers anytime they want. There's no reason to do what OP has suggested, and it's actually kind of funny but I just assume they don't know much about cloud services, throughput, and stuff like that, and that's OK.
I visit KL to collect tickets daily. Do it a while without paying attention, then cash'em in. I just did exactly that today, and exchanged for $200k which is a good chunk of change.
Daily visit habit also keeps me informed when something new is available there.
KL is just a supplemental sub-game, that they were smart to put on separate servers using separate db, money, etc. If it were part of SF we would have more crash issues than we do now, and we'd definitely not be getting more land.
People don't have to play in KL. But the people who do, and enjoy them, are not the minority according to the poll results so far. The anti-KL faction is just more vocal. Anti people usually are...
@lightninghound : . Omg love your userpic that has to be one of my top 5 funniest moments of Simpson ever. Nothing at all! Nothing at all! What is even sillier is I just googled that to watch a clip, and someone made a 10 minute long version of it to see if you can stand it! - I kinda like Krustyland. I visit regularly to collect tickets and re-set tasks. At the moment I've got about 4 permanent residents doing tasks there. I'm still working on getting all the land. Even when that's done, I'll just start saving up for decorations to really make it look good. That, though, will take a while, and it's not really enough of a priority to keep more than 4 characters there.
