That means it's still in your inventory (or should be).
I'd suggest checking all 3 main categories, and look all the way through them very carefully. Sometimes things show up in the wrong place.
And don't trust the subcategories. They are wonderful, but odd. For instance, I was clearing some of those wooden rail fences from around my Squidport edges. Stored them. Went to look for them, and figured they'd be in the "fence" subcategory of decorations. Nope. Not in any subcategory at all. But in the main "decorations" category --- there they were. "fence". Oh, well.
You can find the fences you speak of in the squidport subcategory.
