This is exactly it - I've been lurking here for three years before I decided to get off my butt at the start of this event and start contributing too! It just happened that I was in a thread where mesmerelda said she had the flu and was willing to add people that needed it, so I jumped on board knowing that an active poster is also likely an active player.

You were kind enough to accept, and now you have to put up with the sorry state of farm town until I can afford to replace and re-design :) but at least I visit daily.

I always accept random invites!

Now that I think about it, I always get a few after I post a photo in a showcase thread. Maybe people are reading the forum and decide to add random forum members even though they are not registered. Just a guess.

I have a few friends from here, and sometimes if we are talking about each others towns, or liking something about the others town, that's when I get a few new friend requests. Maybe people are just curious.

John, your name is the first one they see when they go to the add-me thread. And I'm right up there with you. Some of the requests are from secondary and tertiary towns. Most, I'm convinced, are current neighbors who want a good neighbor for their other towns.

For my main town, I will add them, go there immediately and look at what they have. If they are too new, I will unfriendly them, but add them to my crawl towns. I know how exasperating it is to have really high level towns as neighbors, seeing all they have and not being able to keep up. If they are premium towns and seem to have everything possible, I tend not to add them. My experience is that they are less than kosher. Especially if they have things they shouldn't have.

True but this just started. My name has been there forever. At first I thought it had to do with the flu but others said it was happening to them as well. If their not on the forum though how are they reading the add me thread unless we have more lurkers than members. It's just a thought.

I am in the same boat as you John. I always get a stray request once in a while but in the last week or so I have been getting at least 5 a day. I never got this many when I was new and posting in the add me threads. I would love to know if it's just a coincidence or if something more nefarious is afoot.

Me too - I usually get a random request here and there, but I've been getting way more lately.

I haven't been posting all that much lately, but I'm guessing that people who are lurking are reading what we are saying and may feel like they can relate to us, or like the humour they are seeing in some of our banter :)

Unfortunately, I usually don't add people who randomly request me because I'm pretty full up with neighbours as it is. (so apologies to anyone who may have sent a request that I declined :))
