I keep them, since I'm far from my limit anyway, it doesn't matter to me. And those idle friends have been useful in past events where I could get gremlins/whatever, but I don't have to worry about leaving anything back to them.
But mostly, because I have this thought that someday they'll return to their Springfield. It has happened to a few players, whose Springfield I have noticed stagnate through a bunch of levels and events, and eventually return.
In particular, there is a player that has been idle since the first halloween event, meaning october 2012, and I don't think that player will ever return.
But, that brings my next reason not to delete them: it gives me a sense of look back into what our towns used to look like at particular levels or events, and then I can compare to how bustling our level 38 Springfields are, compared to when we wondered if there would be anything beyond level 21.
