Only just started my career, 90 AI. In the Lancia event that you can choose in the very first week, for the first four stages I was hovering around 25-30 seconds behind, hovering around 25th. Then all of a sudden, for the rest of the entire event, I was first in every stage. Ended up finishing 6 minutes ahead of 2nd.
Put the AI up to 100, for the Chile event, placed 31st for the first few stages, then in the 4th stage, I'm suddenly 30 seconds ahead of the class leader in the first sector alone.
I'm wondering if progressing through a service point does some weird reset to the AI or something.
