Is this the end? No more WRC?

https://www.ea.com/games/ea-sports-wrc/wrc-24/news/wrc-development-update

Says WRC development has been paused.  Reading between the lines and EA loves to cancel games.    Sounds to me as development on any new games has been cancelled.

Was my first Rally game and love it.   But what is concerning as EA have announced more layoffs across its studios.    I'm worried for the guys at codemasters.    If F1 flops this year I'm more worried for Codemasters as a studio.    Been playing Codemasters games for 30+ years and one of my all time favourite studios.    Be gutted if EA closes them down.

Just want to thank the team for developing a game that I've had a awesome time playing and will play for hundreds more hours.   ❤️

Sokittoya76A  That's exactly how I feel.  But then I am only a year your senior.  When TOCA released.  It was one of those games that rose the bar in racing games.   Car physics and crash damage blew my mind.  I still clearly remember the instruction manual (When game studios actually included proper instructions rather than having to search google and YouTube for answers)  Anywsy it explained how to recreate what was great about British Touring cars at the time.   How to give the car infront rear quarter panel a tap so it spun off.  Never got old. Especially due to the crash damage that for the time was awesome.    Codemasters had me at TOCA❤️

Codies created so many good titles during the decades from bmx sim to Micro machines to Colin Mc Crae rally and Toca series. I have original copies of around 80% of Codies games (48yrs young) and to see a studio with such a deep history in electronic entertainment be gobbled up, chewed and spat out on the sidewalk like this is deeply offensive, downright heartless and a good indicator of E.A's directives/ ethos as a company. Stick your bottom line up your axxx EA! Electronic entertainment is worth more than your soulless bxstxrdisation of the art.

  • I'll take this thread as opportunity to say thank you for all the developers for the great work in EA WRC.

it's like a really good simcade game and one the greatest rally game ever made (for me is better than Dirt Rally 2.0 by far)

Thank you Codemasters for these 30 years of great games, since TOCA 1 and CMR 1.

  • It is the end for EA Sports WRC as well as both EA and Codemasters won't be making any more rally racing games.

But the WRC organization itself said their WRC gaming franchise is going in an "ambitious" new direction with news coming in the future. (Right at the same time EA and Codemasters made their announcement)

So it's both yes and no.

Yes that it is the end and EA and Codemasters are not making any new rally racing games. No that there are still going to be more WRC games but made from different developers and publishers.
