Livery Editor - Suggestion Thread

Allow for bigger and smaller sizes for the decals

The minimum size in particular is too big, if I want to place a decal on the side of this wing, for an example, I can’t because the minimum size is too big, these limits seem very arbitrary and unnecessary.

Increase the area of projection for decals
Again, the limits of the decals projection seem arbitrary and unnecessary, if I want to add decals to other areas of that same wing I cant because the maximum the game will allow is here for the roof and here for the back, but if I spin the logo you can see that the game can project the decal on the wing as shown here and here, so you end up not being able to place a decal on the wing due to the limited projection area and limited size of the decals.

Add the ability to mirror decals
Most liveries are symmetrical from left to right, so the livery editor needs a tool to mirror one or all decals from one side of the car to the other, the lack of numeric values for the position, rotation, scale and skew of the decals makes it even harder to mirror a livery.

Finer adjustment for position, rotation, scale and skew of the decals

Specially for skew, since it adjusts on the d-pad, one quick press of the d-pad makes the decal skew way too much.

Stamp decals / copy paste decals with modifications
Add a way to press a button and have a decal, that I already chose a color and a size, rotation, skew, to be placed on the current location, and at the same time make a copy with the same color, size, rotation, skew, that can now be placed on another location (same behavior as stamping a layer on Forza games), or have a way to just copy and paste a decal with its modifications.

Add the ability to group decals
Add the ability to Group Decals so that they can be edited all as one, size, rotation, position etc.

Save groups of decals

Add the ability to save those groups of decals so that we can reuse those decal groups on other cars, or even share them so that other players in the community can use them on their liveries

Share complete liveries
With the ability to share decal groups the game could also have the ability to share entire liveries so that those who don’t want to create entire liveries can use ones already made by the community.

Horizontal shift for projection on the front and rear bumper
Add the ability to horizontally rotate the projection of decals on the front and rear bumpers to prevent the distortion of the decals like you can see here, a projection from the POV of the camera of this screenshot would fix the distortion of this decal.

Material of decals
Add the ability to change the material of the decal to the same options as the paint pattern (glossy, matte, metallic, carbon, etc.)

MORE REAL LIFE SPONSORS LIKE "Pirelli, Castrol, Wrc etc"

add more real life sponsors to the game!!!!!

    @40plusRacing You are a bit wrong 😉
This was Forza where you can create your own Stickers and save it to reuse it.
In GT7 you can upload you own stickers and can use it ingame.

Let us see if the livery editor will change with the next patch. But i dont think that this will happen...

  • @StolleJay 🤔 I’m wrong in what? Not remembering the name of the game were I was able to make my own stickers? I’m pretty sure it wasn’t forza for me b’cause i don’t play forza 😉

Yes I know that gt7 has the option to upload and as i said i created some really nice liveries and therefore I said i really hoped and hope that wrc 23 would be similar or better.
  • Agree with OP, the most critical additon should be mirroring to other side (also front to back would be a nice to have but not as important) either layer by layer or the whole shabang.

The next one for me would be fine adjustments (by holding shift or other additional key, the increment of adjustment should be half or less of the original key).

Third most useful would be duplicating layers. Once I've skewed and/or resized and/or adjusted projection of a certain decal, it's time-consuming and sometimes quite difficult to reproduce. I just spent 20min making a really primitive thing like Estonian flag on the roof scoop of my car (took 10 layers to do it and it's still not perfect by far). With the abovementioned tools it would have been a piece of cake.

  • Some of us also have photoshop so it would be a neat option to be able to upload your own designs in png format or similar!

Three important things that are subtle, and I don't see other people mention them much.

    1. Highlight the hovered/pre-selected decal.

When you have 100+ decals, it is insanity to have to go through them all, open one, move it around to see if it's the right one, cancel, scroll to another one, repeat, repeat, repeat.

The user needs to be able to see the decal that is pre-selected appear on the car immediately, as the cursor moves onto that decal in the list.

See also the attached "WhichDecal.jpg" for a real example of the problem.

    2. When confirming a decal edit, preserve the cursor's position in the decal list.

When you edit a decal but cancel instead of confirm, the cursor stays at that decal's position in the decal list. This is good.

But when you edit a decal and confirm the edit, the cursor then goes back to the start of the decal list.

When you have 100+ decals and you need to tweak a cluster of them from early in your work, this is again just batty as you have to scroll through maybe 100 items for every. single. edit.

(Combined with the above issue about no decal highlight, it's just a massive hassle.)

The attached "WhichDecal.jpg" shows just how much scrolling you have to keep doing if you're trying to edit a cluster of pieces near the bottom of the list.

    3. Let us move the camera while editing, and loosen the camera's restrictions heavily.

When editing a decal, here are 3 parts to the problems that the fixed camera creates:

    • A. There are plenty of times when we want to see decal curving around the car, and it's a painful process of select decal, edit, confirm, move camera, check visually, scroll to decal, select decal, edit, confirm, move camera, check visually, forks in my eyes.
    • B. It's even worse when even the Body Part camera is too restrictive to see what you've done, so you have to step back all the way to the Decal Hub to get a better camera. This is especially true when trying to put decals on the roof, back, or front.
    • C. Light reflections are a big irritation when trying to place a decal at times. Being able to move the camera would get around this problem.

(The blue text in the above image says "Using the Bonnet body part to paint beneath the car, and on areas of the Front, is used to save decals from having to be spent on the Front body part's 25-decal limit.")

Currently, right stick is the control for stretching the current decal.

L3 is currently unused. I suggest adding a control that is simply: L3: Toggle camera control

When you click L3, the right stick becomes the Camera control. If you click L3 again, it goes back to being the Stretch control.

Yes, the side list could at least show what you did within the decal ( colour, shape ) instead of the default image. You just can't tell which is which unless you remembered, and as you say when there's a larger number of layers it takes forever to find them

@EA_Groguet  We need this thing to livery editor, that creating would be easier. Also we need possibility use numerals and letters, when we create new liveries to cars. In addition would be nice, if Codemaster / EA Sports could add some basic shapes to decal collection, one of them is star. It's strange, that in decal collection not be stars

this livery editor has going so well after some features added. maybe adding some more basic shapes make it even better like tribals, flames, or kind of liquid blob and some real life logos from sponsors it could be make it perfect.

  • Sugestions:

    1. Add a text field so you can enter your own texts, names, etc

    2. Add original stickers that are already used on cars (Castrol, RedBull, Michellin, sparco, etc.)

  • Free text layer

I think this would be a good addition: an option to enter free text as a decal layer. There should be an option to cycle through a couple of fonts. It would make sense to add team names, makeshift sponsors etc. texts like "eat my dirt" on the rear bumper...
