Physics update?

Hi Dear EA Codemasters Teams,

Do you know if there are any plans to improve the suspension in the new WRC game?

Dirt rally 1 has already had very good suspension, have a look hear please https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuN8zpRERy0&t=29s

Also are there any plans to improve/reduce the linear grip/traction and lateral grip to make the handling more natural? I understand the compromise being made for all players in current model/state, but would it be possible to release the game as it is now (handling physics) and make an option in the game menu, casual and simulation please? Would you forward my suggestions to be looked into please?

From my observations in preview videos I have noticed that the grip levels from gravel look more like they should used on tarmac, maybe with tiny increase, but minor. The Monte Carlo grip, looks more like real life gravel grip and monte seems way too grippy for ice and patches of snow in this video:

There was a great video released recently with good suggestions too:

Please look at this RBR mod:

And see the cool excel attachment for creating cars physics

Please let me know what you think and thank you.

Kind regards

  • This is a good example to build similar and maybe more advanced tool for physics creating?!

@dominicomucci3014 we dont make such comments, opinions and comparisons based on imagination. I have driven cars on all surfaces and i came to sim world from real world as probably most of us here, therefore we base our discussions about games/simulations vs real life experiences.
There are multiple people who have almost identical opinion on the current handling/tyre model/physics and you can see it with a naked eye even from simple replays.
Realistic handling physics is the most difficult job to do and i suppose Codemasters were limited with time to pay enough attention to it, although they make rally games since very long time and dont seem to move on from their good 15-10 years ago foundations due to limited access to real life data then, but we are in 2023 and RBR had it already in 2004. 🙂 iRacing IRX has it for a long time and it works perfect. The middle of the car's pivoting axis gives simple and believable sliding feeling, but i am pretty sure that, because of that there is no real tire model at least in rear/back wheels because they would counter act. The current model is ok for fun and arcade guys although not so easy to invite new people and may push away as well due to being unnatural therefore tricky. I dont necessarily mean hardcore simulation, but at least basics, real 9.81ms gravity, real 1200kg mass of the cars, ground (all surfaces) more less believable grip level and similar grip on tire model, air density for aerodynamics, fluid suspension for natural weight transfer and natural grip, mostly front to back and side to side also no less important. The physics current and previous physics model after Colin McRae 2 should have been discarded (although CM 2.0 was the best at that time) and the same now. Understandable to move away from EGO engine to Unreal Engine for the track size increase, but the outdated handling model should have gone together with EGO engine. New engine, new era, new possibilities and even old RBR engine would have made it more of a fresh breath and spirit. I am aware that rally games are the nishe and not so profitable for creators, so i want to highlight that i deeply appreciate their effort and this great potential title (EA WRC), but it is time to move to a real thing and that, trust me everyone would really enjoy and have fun equally, if not more with it being closer to real life experience and what a great tool it could be for rally schools and new young rally drivers to learn the basics in this dangerous sport before crashing on a real stage?! Thank you

    Hi Guys,

We all have these problems experiences, but no response from EA/Codies at all?! Isn't this their forum?

I would rather receive  email that the developers are taking on board our concerns instead of notifications that I have earned some badge?!

I don't understand the purpose of all these forums and comments if their are not being answered by the actual creators.

I have been waiting for almost 15 years to get close to real life rally sim and came across french RSRBR and I was impressed, in there ngp 3 has impressed me even more, but slightly too slow. After years of asking the creators of RSRBR and NGP I have decided to make my own mod, it took me almost 5 years, but after all.the hard work RBR 2020 V4.0 was born https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OJAGRY1FsJaIF4-JUpExMD38kCqL-lIH/view?usp=drivesdk and I think, although still not perfect it is the closest thing to how real cars behave. EA/CODEMASTERS PLEASE TEST IT!

If similar engIne was implemented to the EA WRC new gen looks and sound it would be a HIT and it would knock all rally games out. EA/Codemasters would profit enormously and we all would be stunned.

I think there is no better time to do it then now with all the EA resources, WRC licences and Codies experience and skills - JUST DO IT!!!

    THANK YOU 😉

If you just want RBR physics then just play RBR. No dev is going to entirely rewrite its physics just because one person on a forum complained that they should.

  • Hi Mate,

I don't think I am the only person and also I don't say RBR physics, I say similar to RBR and that us only because, they have based their physics on the actual real world physics data, therefore it is so close to real driving.

If you claim that your game is a simulation, then check the dictionary definition for the word simulation.

I like them going in the good direction, but trust me you would not play anything else if cars there behaved like this below:

    Take care
