Re: About Physics

Strongly disagree on this blanket satement, it all depends on what wheel and pedals you're using.

I've driven rally cars and had other rally drivers test my sim (Simucube 1 wheel + Fantec v3 pedals + 80/20 Aluminium chassis with racing seat) and the feedback was/is from me - it feels much like the real thing. I did test DR2.0 on a full 6 DOF, VR, 70k USD simualtor and it felt very much like the real car.

I will test the new WRC 2023 and show content through Instagram on @sim.school and my YouTube channel @simschoolau for collective thoughts on the new WRC. And I will try to bring in drivers that have driven Rally2, Rally 3 and similar cars.

  • Thank you for sharing your thought!

I am honored to be shared thought from irl rally driver.

btw, I also played with simcube, fanatec, logitech, and etc, with customized pedals also 6 dof with vr.

Also, I used to do the rally and dirt trial in Japan and now gymkhana/autocross in Korea.

For me, I can understand rear slips for the gravel stages, but for tarmac session, especially for the FF cars, it feels strange that rear moves first.

Feel like graphic of pivot is fixed at the center of rally car. Whenever the car tries to rotate, front goes in, rear goes out in game. It should be front goes in while rear follows at acceptable grippy speed.

But please advice me if I have certain error in my opinion!

I agree totally, Dirt Rally 2.0 physics are fantastic and very authentic IMO, both gravel and tarmac too. Lot's of people complain the tarmac is too slippy but it's extremely realistic when comparing it to real rally footage and breaks traction just as a real car does.

I dont know where people get the idea that tarmac driving = on rails, there is always a point at which you will slide even in a modern rally car, and the Dirt Rally handling simulates this beautifully and is extremely intuitive, predictable and fun!

I just hope this new game will be as good and better in that department

When you break hard, the weight comes from the rear to the front and so the rear moves first, especially if you're still braking when you start to turn. To me, it's exactly the same IRL (even if if you feel it more or less regarding to the specs of the car, FWD, front engine, etc).

  • Thank you for the all of opinions!

    Good to hear many opinions

However, I am not talking about the situation in breaking but mostly accelerating.

Even with my 305 whp fwd gymkhana vehicle with LSD on, rear does not move first unless I shake the car

In my experience of doing tarmac rally, tarmac in DR2.0 was extremely unrealistic for me.

Maybe for the gravel, I can accept certain points but not the tarmac for sure...

Even with modern strong LSD fwd rally car, or AWD car (which I had experience with lancer wrc) did not move like that in real life...

However I am not saying that i do not like the game. I already played nearly 1,000 hours both on DR1 and DR2.

Just really hoping that the game will have better physics in many ways.

Also left my opinion on steam community as well. Please check that as well if you have any time 😉

i have noticed same issues with physics and rotation axis especially ff cars it was and is quite disappointing to me really hope an update comes with better physics model. for a big title like this one we should have gotten better and maybe learned from mistakes in previous games

  • The modelling in the game should be as close as possible to all the different classes ie RWD AWD FWD. Then tehcnics taut in the rally school in a way that gets you to understand how to use them in said classes more indepth teaching no aids included in the game/sim. sorry for my bad grammer.
