Co-Driver Audio Crackles and Pops

This audio glitch is a bit harsh and distracting, and only seems to affect the co-driver calls from what I can tell.

If I turn the co-driver volume slider to 0, it all goes away, the regular engine and tires/surface sound effects along with the additional world sounds does not create any of these audio distortions / crackles / pops, only the calls from the co-driver when audible.

The crackling and popping is extremely prevalent on the English #2 / female voice for the call outs. Still happens on English #1 / male co-driver, but not nearly as frequently, or at least not as obvious to my ears. I prefer her voice to his, so it's a rough choice either way right now.

I've tried various different audio bit and sample rates in windows, seems to occur with all of them. Here's a sample clip (suggest wearing headphones).

There are times when there will be a bunch of them in a row, like her saying "and six left over crest opens and tightens" in that has 4 distinct pops. And the whole clip is only 15 seconds, but there's about 9 distortions heard in that brief time. While it's not always that bad, it can still get into the hundreds in a single lengthy stage. And sometimes they're louder and sharper than what's captured there.

  • It's also happening to me on Series X. Using the female co-driver and a headset is quite unpleasant to the ears.

    Thanks for that info, Ptarmigan64.

If it's happening on console too, this is definitely an issue that can only be addressed by the developers. Might be something with the engine and how it handles audio playback, or even the way the audio itself was recorded and encoded, or x. Sound glitches are probably very low on their list for problems to tackle, if it's even on there at all.

Not a lot of hope for this one getting resolved, unfortunately. At least feel a little better that it's not my system, but I pretty much gathered that from every other game not exhibiting such behavior, and also how in WRC it seems to be localized entirely to the co-driver audio.
