I have literally the same problem. My setup is a Logitech G923 as a steering wheel. For the handbrake I have a generic handbrake from Aliexpress, and now I changed a Fanatec Clubsport Shifter SQ V 1.5. Likewise, I have the fanatec USB adapter connected for the shifter, since it is the only item I have from fanatec.
I am a PC, Windows user.
Once I installed all the FANATEC shifter drivers, I got into the game with the "sequential" shift setting and it works great. The problem comes when you enter the game but with the configuration with 8 speeds, I repeat, when you enter the game.
If you enter the game with the gear lever in the "H" configuration, and previously before exiting the game you left that configuration, if you enter again in "H" and within a game you change to the 8-gear configuration on the shifter, and then you change the configuration to 8 gears within the game, the game will not be deconfigured. On the other hand, if you leave the game configured in 8 gears, you exit the game, you re-enter with the 8 gear configuration that you left before exiting the game, the 8 gear configuration will be bugged.
The interesting thing is that the game not only bugs the gears within the game, but also bugs externally to the FANANTEC DRIVER. IF you enter the fanatec control panel, it gets bugged, which is alarming hahaha, and you have to recalibrate every time this happens, which is annoying and obviously it is a bug that needs to be solved.
The temporary solution I found was that, when exiting the game, you always have to leave the game set to "sequential" mode. So that the next time you come back in it doesn't get bugged.
If it is bugged, it can still be recalibrated from the fanatec control panel, but it has to be with the game open, in a game in progress, immediately before starting a rally section.
It should be noted that this only happens to me WITH THIS GAME.
I tried many other games, and the only one that has the problem is this one. At first I believed that the problem was with the FANATEC driver, which bugged immediately after opening any game, but I realized that this doesn't happen with any other game, only with WRC.
It should be noted that I spent many hours trying to solve and find a cause for this, until I found the problem, which was the game, and not the Shifter.
Please fix this EA.

I will try to take the precaution of entering and exiting the game always in sequential mode to see if it works for me, but please EA, fix this one and other problems with Fanatec drivers, it is a serious problem of many users of the game that use this brand of peripherals.
