FoV Field of View Settings Inaccurate

The 2 x Field of View sliders (Head Cam, and all other External Cameras) don't seem to correlate visually when set to what mathematically should be the same FoV.

The Head Cam states it ranges from 18 to 68 degrees between 0-100 on the slider, and the External Cameras from 45 to 65 degrees between 0-100 on the slider.

Setting Head Cam to 45 degrees (so 54 on the adjustment slider by my calculations) and External Cameras to 45 degrees (zero on the adjustment slider); the perspective of each is vastly different.

Suggest a review of the FoV settings, and at the same time as others have suggested please translate the sliders to degrees in the settings menu.

I tested from the start that 1 steps = 0.5 degree of vertical FOV, I must have 30° in my race simulations or 24 on the slider but that still seems too high so the adjustment does not seem linear

  • Yes I've also wondered if the perspective is too wide for the set FoV of Head Cam.  But then if the external cameras FoV is taken as accurate, they seem almost too narrow like driving with binoculars.  I wonder if the true FoV is somewhere in the middle of the two settings.  Only thing for sure it that something isn't right, or the sliders map to some crazy S curve...

  • I tried to match FOV looking at a distant tree, getting the tree to be the same size in each view (head and bonnet). With external FOV set to 0 (45 degrees) and headcam FOV set to 33 (34.5 degrees assuming a linear slider), both FOVs looked about the same. So the numbers are kind of baffling.

Agreed, I came to similar numbers when doing a visual alignment, looking for vFoV of 42 degrees.  I settled on about 30 for the headcam as a result.  Which do you think is more accurate, the head cam or external settings?  I feel head cam is too wide for the claimed FoV, and the external cam numbers seem more realistic.
