Game crashes while playing

Game crashes when starting a stage. 

Error message: Game files are missing or corrupt. Please verify them and run the game again.

I am running this game on PC, and purchased through steam. I have used the "verify integrity of game files" function in steam with no improvement and no message after verify function has run.

This happened while running a club competition at Monte-Carlo stage:

 La Maïris

Weather:

Cloudy (Ice)

Time of day:

Afternoon

Service area:

None

Car: Citroen C2R2 MAX

Any help or suggested fixes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    update: after restart of PC and running "verify integrity of game files" on steam this message shows

    update: after relaunching game it will now crash once main menu loads.

    Game continues to crash now seemingly at random. In menu, halfway during a stage or immediately after game start... could be anywhere. Are there any fixes for this? EA? admin? anyone??? "Game files are missing or corrupt. Please verify them and run the game again."
