Interior Car Reflections need to be fully disabled/removed for now.

Please remove them completely, and preferably in a hotfix asap before next month's patch, until perhaps a less obnoxious solution with far lower performance impact can be added later.

Defaulting Car Reflections to Medium on the High and Ultra preset is not a fix for the negative performance issue. Doesn't help with how they fake and opaque they appear on screen, either. Very Low reflections are still fully broken, and anyone can bypass the severity of the more distracting reflection visuals on Low and above by removing the wheel+hands from cockpit view. Doing that is almost like disabling them, but you still don't get any performance improvement. It's just not projecting the hands, arms+wheel on the windshield.

There's just no consistency there at all, and the performance of them being forced on is no doubt impacting the game's performance on consoles which are still suffering as well. Please get rid of them quickly, this is what should have been done in the last update. Instead, focus some effort into other immersion breaking issues from cockpit view, like how there's zero need to use wipers in snowfall, and rain barely impacts the windshield, too. The auto-exposure still needs to be removed in all vehicles and every location after 1.3.0 as well.

Interior reflections should not incur a much larger performance hit than full on ray traced reflections have in entire scenes in other games on similar hardware. They are absolutely broken.

@pyide_아마도 For the realism of the game, indoor light reflection effect...
    It's really good...
However, the dashboard light reflection and reflections of surrounding objects are not enjoyed in cockpit mode.
It felt very uncomfortable for me.
I think it would be better without the windshield light reflection effect.

Windscreen effects OFF option needs to be added.

im fed up of having stupid smoked glass and god awful reflections just because im using a cam in the cockpit, wheres kiddy cam players get all the benifits of not having to deal with this rubbish whilst also getting by far the best sound banks/audio

so what if reflections are 'realistic' the rest of the game isnt realistic(not a pop at the game, absolutely loving it). right now, any cockpit cam gets crap graphics and even more rubbish sounds/audio...... just because its 'realistic'

think outside the damn box for once CM,

    windscreen effects OFF option

and would be real nice if we could choose our sound bank independent of the car camera being used!

It feels to me the reflections are much less intense and the windscreen is clearer. When I look sideways to the windscreen from dashboard cam I can see a reflection of the dash appear. It looks a lot better to me. PS5 user.

Haven't noticed any differences on PC yet. It's really just that some cars and lighting setups are less obnoxious than others, and since there so many cars and lighting setups in the game, take any car + time of day (sun angle)+sky cover+season+location = how many potential combinations that have to be examined?

Of course it's not always going to be so bad... but it's not always going to be good, either.

In my experience, the bad still far outweighs the good, and good is still usually poor in multiple ways. And the fact that these reflections are always on and chewing up performance for very little visual benefit and potentially breaking any and all immersion makes it all that much worse, even when it's not immediately distracting.

Still running across some random setups where the reflections are beyond distracting and also impossible to be even happening at all. Like the speedometer and all these other front facing dashboard elements being reflected in the glass despite being blocked by geometry or at a physically impossible angle to show up in the middle of the windscreen. Even if my driver in the seat was a full on mirror and not a character model of a person, it would not like anything as insane as this being reflected or projected onto the windshield.

When using a gamepad  I've also noticed that movement of the hands and wheel in the cockpit both reflects and 'halos' unnaturally on not just the windscreen, but also around the cabin interior elements, side windows, roll bars and supports, metal on the roof and door, etc in impossible ways as well. Often appearing as a shiny white blob of a could be reflection that's moving in tandem with the hands and wheel to all around (but frequently on the left side of the cockpit since it's closest to that), despite a dark steering wheel and black gloves being the sole element of movement that could be reflected. Where exactly is this moving white blobby reflector coming from? It's so so so awful in so many ways. I don't know what they are trying to achieve with any of that stuff, just more breaking of immersion and any sense of realism in the visual presentation for no good reason.

Feel like that stuff doesn't get called at all because lots of people are using wheels and/or hiding the driver hands and wheels so they wouldn't being seeing any of that to begin with, but it is a solid demonstration of how poorly the interior reflections are handled and rendered in the this game, as that stuff seems to affect basically every car and setup to some extent, even when the windshield reflections may appear less intense or even clear at times.

  • Finally a method to remove them on PC.

    Two step process:

    1. Set Car Reflections to Ultra Low in game.
    2. Add to bottom of Engine.ini

    [/Script/Engine.RendererSettings]

    r.AllowGlobalClipPlane=0

Note: If you don't have Car Reflections on Ultra Low first, you may have jump back to the menu or exit and restart the game for them to fully disable. Interior Windscreen Reflections may still be visible on higher quality settings if you want them back without editing the .ini, but if you want them gone again on Ultra Low you might need to restart again.

Especially useful right now with the new Citroen C3 which is extremely broken. Before and After examples of that and other cars with elements that would be physically impossible to see reflected on the windscreen but are in the default game:

    Citroen C3

    Lancia Stratos

    Alpine A110

Not the only cars in the game that are broken here, all sorts of cars in various lighting/time of day conditions are worse than others. I can't believe it took this long to find a workaround, but better late than never.

the effects are ultra low, the fps for those are unbearable to watch and the rear mirror doesnt reflect any frame of inside the car
