PSA: Asus Armory Crate interfering with EA AC preventing game from launching
Context.
I recently bought an Asus A16 AMD Advantage laptop during a sale. It runs on Windows 11 and I decided to keep what was installed because a lot of stuff was new to me and I wanted to get a feel for it all. It came with some Asus software pre-installed such as Asus Armory Crate, MyAsus, etc.
Fast forward to today I tried playing EA Sports WRC on my laptop for the first time. I've been playing the game on my desktop and have played it fine since Patch 1.90. Game gives EA AC encountered an error, and won't run. I do various troubleshooting and discover that at the location of the .exe it indicates, the necessary .dll is missing. I manually install EA AC again, see the DLL in place, launch the game, open the folder, and in real time I watch the dll get removed right after the game launches a prompt for EA AC to make changes to my PC (aka update, install, w/e).
Do some more troubleshooting and then clean install the game again encountering the issue. So I remove Asus Armory Crate after some research and lo and behold the game runs!
TL;DR
If you get a new PC, to save yourself some headaches, consider doing a clean install of windows and just install drivers, or do research on each software installed with your PC to determine if you want to keep using it or not, and if you run into an issue running a game, especially one that uses EA Anti Cheat Services, disable those as one of your first steps in troubleshooting.
