Claymore not being placed

There will be times that the claymore is impossible to place in a spot unless you walk very far away from where you initially wanted. It gives a blocked terrain message way to much in places that don't make sense. It just won't let you place it.

It also gives trouble with detonation. Half of the time or even more (not exaggerating) it won't even go off.  It works really weirdly. I'm suspecting it is some type of placement scanner that is overly aggressive with surrounding objects.

I can't get the claymore 'not' going off, but it has happened many times to me and other players.
