You found the solve, I read your comment and thought "no way that worked," only to look up at my desktop finding a USB plugged in. I closed the game, unplugged it, and voila the game connected.
This sounds like a major Anti Cheat problem. Hoping they find a fix, this was hilarious but also extremely frustrating being a developer myself
