Custom controller settings not saving — always reset to "Classic" (FC 26)
Hi everyone,
I’d like to report a recurring issue I’ve been having with controller customization in FC 26 (and also in previous FC titles).
Basically, any custom button layout I create never stays saved — it always resets back to the default “Classic” layout once I start a match.
This happens to me every time I play on a friend’s console, both on PlayStation and Xbox, and regardless of whether I sign in with my own account or as a guest.
Here’s what happens in detail:
I go into the game settings, customize the button layout the way I like, and save it as Custom A.
As soon as I start a match, my controls are automatically set back to “Classic”.
I’ve tried doing this from different menus — the main menu, pre-match settings, the side selection screen before kickoff, and even during the in-game pause menu — but the result is always the same: it resets to “Classic”.
If, during side selection, I manually change the control scheme from Classic to Alternate, it still resets back to Classic once the match starts.
Interestingly, if the console owner (the main profile on that console) uses a Custom A layout, it stays saved correctly for them. But if I try to select the same Custom A layout as a guest or a secondary player, it always goes back to Classic once the match begins.
So basically, it seems like the game doesn’t properly apply or remember custom control schemes for secondary or guest players, even if the layout exists and is selectable in the menus.
This happens:
In all game modes
On both PlayStation and Xbox
Whether I’m logged in with my own account or playing as a guest
And it has been happening not just in FC 26, but also in several previous FC versions.
It’s a bit frustrating because whenever I play locally at a friend’s place, I have to reconfigure my controls before every single match, and they still don’t stay applied.
Hopefully this can be looked into and fixed — it’s been around for years now and really impacts local play sessions.
Thanks!
