Player suddenly slows down after knocking the ball forward while sprinting

I’ve noticed a frustrating issue with sprinting and knocking the ball forward into open space in FC 27.

Sometimes, when I’m already sprinting at full speed and knock the ball forward to run onto it, my player suddenly slows down almost to a complete stop instead of continuing the sprint. It looks and feels like the player gets stuck or “bogged down” for a moment. After that, the player starts accelerating again, but much more slowly, completely killing the momentum of the run and allowing defenders to catch up.

This is not related to stamina. I have experienced it with players who have plenty of stamina remaining. I have also experienced it in offline matches with two players on the same Xbox, so this does not appear to be a connection or network-delay issue.

It seems to happen specifically when knocking the ball forward while already sprinting. Most of the time the mechanic works normally, but occasionally the player enters what looks like an incorrect transition animation and almost stops instead of continuing to accelerate into the open space.

This is especially frustrating during counterattacks or when you have successfully beaten a defender and have open space ahead. A situation where pace should give you an advantage can suddenly turn into the defender catching you because your player unexpectedly stops accelerating.

Has anyone else experienced this?

It feels like a bug with the transition between the knock-on/touch animation and the sprint animation rather than intended player inertia. I would appreciate it if EA could investigate this issue.

Video evidence attached from my PS5. Please watch how slowly my player runs after the ball is knocked forwards: instead of accelerating to chase the ball, he slows down and cannot keep up with his own touch. This is the specific problem I am reporting, rather than just generally heavy gameplay.

It has been happening repeatedly in most games recently, and I have noticed it since the recent update, within the last week. It is ruining the game for me. I have tried two controllers and get the same behaviour on both. Restarting the game only helped temporarily before it returned.

Please pass this clip to the gameplay team and investigate the knock-on-to-sprint transition and why the player fails to accelerate after the touch. I cannot establish the technical cause or exact update responsible, but this is a recent and persistent change in my experience.

Update: this is still happening in most games and it is ruining the game for me. It only started within the last week; I first noticed it yesterday. R2 registers on the input overlay, but my player knocks the ball forward and then fails to accelerate properly after it. I have tried two controllers with the same result. Restarting the game helped temporarily, but the problem came back. I have a video clip of it happening. Has anyone found a reliable workaround, and can EA please investigate?

This is happening to me every game and is making FC27 almost unplayable. It only started happening today, 17 October 2026.

When I hold R2 with the ball, my player takes a heavy touch and knocks it forward as if about to sprint, but then does not accelerate after it properly. R2 still works normally off the ball. Input Overlay shows R2 registering, and I have tried two controllers with the same result. Players who previously accelerated past defenders, including Remy, now cannot do so as before.

I have saved a video clip of it happening and can provide it. I have not yet confirmed whether it also occurs offline. Please investigate and let us know whether there is a workaround.
