Character stuck in a dark spot after launching season 5

I updated for season 5 on PS5. After launching the game and watching the new season 5 introduction video I switched to the game and got a dark blue environment with an invisible skate character. I thought I heard Slappy say something, then my invisible skate character slammed into something and I got the skateboard hourglass animation for half a second. Slammed again, and this turned into a loop, slamming again and again.

I tried to switch to the map and do a quick travel to some other location, but it turns out my cursor is stuck in the center the map.

I can spectate other skaters although they have a frame rate of about 3 images/sec. I tried teleporting to them. If I try that I get a black screen with a skateboard loading animation, that never ends.

I tried several reboots, but it changes nothing. Each time I get the season 5 video, so the game did not register that I already watched that.

    Update: I've managed to find a tedious workaround. Unfortunately the issue will return next time you will log on to any of the servers.

    The workaround is as follows : Go to the menu and start scrolling through other players. Scroll through them and watch what they are doing. You might notice that you will see they are doing, but there is no sound. You might want focus on the players more towards the bottom of the list. Eventually you might select a player with some issue, and in that case the game won't show you what that player is doing but instead shows you a view of your own player character browsing your phone. Once you notice that exit the menu and you are free.

    Commenting because I think this is the same issue that I am having. I have a ticket open but support has been completely unhelpful so far.

    Update: I've removed the game from my PS5 and reinstalled it, and it solved this issue and a lot of other issues I was experiencing. The other issues I was experiencing were :

    • 20 second black screen when starting a challenge. Then the challenge starts, but the goals of the challenge are not shown, and you cannot access the challenge menu to abort the challenge. The only way to end the challenge is to "kill it", and then the game crashes
    • Update notifications from crew-bounties staying on the screen
    • A seemingly broken season 5 mission
    • Occasional skin clipping through clothes when viewing player character in the menu

    All seemingly fixed by reinstalling the game.
