Game keeps freezing pc, background apps still running

I and several others in the Discord server have had issues with it crashing/freezing on pc today. game is updated, windows is updated, graphics driver is updated, had to force restart twice. After "Checking for updates" the window closes and my entire pc freezes, i can hear my background apps still running, but nothing works except a force restart.
