I was able to play the game just fine a couple of hours ago but after a softlock I've only been able to enter the start screen, then the loading icon goes and goes and goes and goes... after a few mi...

I see this is tagged now as investigating so I'll add my experience pre-lockout.
I've only got about 4 hours in-game, I was skating around not doing any objectives. I did a grind and at the end of the rail, my character got stuck in a weird position. His arms and legs then disappeared, and I had full control of the camera still but couldn't move. Then my character disappeared completely and the camera locked and all I could do was pause and unpause. I paused, went to the map and fast traveled to a random point and my character was still still invisible and the controls were all still broken. So I closed the game, launched it, and like the OP it went through the process as normal, Splash -> Configuring -> Long loading screen -> Update/survey, click to continue -> Black screen with the game cursor.
I've tried reinstalling and launching from the EA app.
Hope this gets fixed soon.
