Killed every enemy, but given a defeat

I faced a Stranger in TW, used LV. During the screen where the Submit / Forfeit button came up, Maul, who was the last enemy toon, died. I was given the defeat screen, hit submit, and when I checked, the team was back to full HP with a hold.
