The existing family (Mom) had mail in their mailbox when they moved out. It was a join Households move from the dad's perspective. I think now that it's a retail lot the mailbox is forever Flag up. Something went wrong during the move, I guess. Its harmless so I just ignore it. The box on the home lot is fine.
Did you try replacing the mailbox ?
