I do not know if this is a bug or an intended feature, but if it is the latter it renders all food-focused businesses in the newest pack completely unviable.

I'm having the same problem. I've also done the workaround of using "pick up serving" to separate into individual servings on items. One problem with doing this, all candy made in the candy machine does not have the "pick up serving" option, it only has "grab a serving" option. With "grab a serving" you have to make sure to pause the game at just the right time, then reset sim so they put the serving on the floor, then move the serving into the sim's inventory and do this procedure for every serving just to be able to sell the candy as intended. It's very frustrating.
