cannot do anything with pets that involves picking them up.

i can't do anything with my pets that involve picking them up. my sim just gets stuck holding them until i cancel the action. i even deleted the saved game completely and started over from scratch, but it didn't help. now i can't even adopt a pet. please fix it. i paid for that specific addon because and it's my favorite part of the game. i'm not too pleased about the fact that i can't use a portion of the game i paid for.
