So, I think this bug started happening after the last update for Life and Death. I always have Neighborhood Stories off in the main settings. I noticed my game lagging a bit recently, and decided ...

Wndblwz I started using MCCC only recently specifically for my new legacy save because it was initially a really old one (5 years or so) and it was getting more buggy with each update, it was unplayable, so I saved all sims in my family tree and put them in a new save; I needed MCCC to build all the relationships again, put the new gen in, make marriages, kill the old gen, do the same for spouses and so on (it took me about 6 hours) . I admit I didn't poke around all the MCCC modules, all I really needed was the realtionship cheats.
SO, I saw your comment and since I find myself really needing that mod but I also really need NS to be off, I'm currently testing with different save files and with the same mods I use in my legacy save (I plan to do a couple of tests with unmodded saves + a couple of tests without the MCCC population module too).
For now I have very inconclusive results, I tested 2 save files for 4 in game weeks: in one NS didn't act up while in the other Mila Munch married and moved in with Marcus Flex (again). No notification about it when I clicked on the mail box too. In the second save file the active family had a baby + an addition to the household so my theory is that one of the two things triggered something in NS.
I will keep testing during the weekend in hope I don't need to transfer my legacy save again 🫡

Wndblwz xxSugarRush I also like to use MC Command Center and there is a learning curve to the population and pregnancy modules because they are programmed for story progression (like neighborhood stories) by default so you have to go in and change them to stop it. I had this issue when I first started using it years ago so I would play without those modules (and without the career one, I can't remember if that effects it or not.) They do have a discord where your questions can be answered for that mod. I've used it a few times and they are helpful.
Obviously, the best way to test is to remove all mods, play a new, vanilla save, and see if it's still happening. Sometimes old saves can wonk out on their own and get corrupted, and mods increase that chance.
Sometimes using the "save as" instead of "save" when saving your game can help refresh your save a little bit. I use it every 10 saves or so.
Also, the localthumbcache file in your Sims 4 folder should be deleted every time you change your mods, whether putting anything in or taking anything out of your mods folder. It's also a good habit to completely remove your mods folder when updating or patching the game, and it doesn't hurt to do a game repair before putting them back in.
Old saves require a fair share of maintenance, so getting into the habit of sort of "babying" your game helps longevity, particularly when it comes to mods.
But, alas, despite all this, bugs still happen.
