Can't disable Neighbourhood Stories

So, I think this bug started happening after the last update for Life and Death.

I always have Neighborhood Stories off in the main settings. I noticed my game lagging a bit recently, and decided to take a look at the Household Manager to delete some extra townies, but then I noticed on map view that a bunch of unplayed Sim households had moved into empty houses in various worlds. I had to go through all of the worlds and manually evict them. Since there's no more independent "move into empty houses" toggle in the game options, I can't do anything about it and it seems to be making my game sluggish.

I really don't like the game taking control like this, and never wanted neighborhood stories or any story progression mechanics, so this makes me nervous that NS is buggy and might take control of my Sims and move them around or kill them, causing chaos in a save I've played rotationally with many households, for years.

More than a year since neighborhood stories has been broken and I still cannot disable it. It is particularly frustrating when it messes up played households or assigns ownership of businesses to played households. Today I opened one of my favorite households and the couple had divorced. Soon after neighborhood stories notification came in about an adoption. On a small business lot a brand new household was now the owner of the lot.

  • Since the last update, the neighborhood stories changed. Even if I disabled thoses, there still have npc moving into ALL houses, and some npc's also getting pregnant, EVENT IF I DISABLED NEIGHBORHOOD STORIES ! Now we have to check or uncheck a little box, I don't understand anything anymore, it's changed and it annoys me a lot !

I think the neighborhood stories fail was first report a little over a year ago and, as you said, I think the recent update really messed it up. My game now has pregnancies, new babies and divorces all over the place. I've had to delete the babies and reestablish several relationships (spouses, partner and siblings). It got to be so much I started a new save, which sucks because I was actively playing the messed up game.

Not sure if this should be reported as part of the year-old neighborhood stories bug but since the latest patch the break has broadened... Including moving the Royal Envoy into an empty house. I have always had neighborhood stories "disabled" (because the toggle never actually disables it). Also since the patch entire households and Sims have disappeared from the game. This goes hand-in-hand with unwanted pregnancies, move-ins and move-outs, divorces and the addition of unwanted siblings in game-altered relationships.

I've started a new save to see if it happens again.

I can corroborate this! I will place a dozen or so households into a save, all pre-established relationships, families, and even just solo sims, and then play for an in-game week or two, only to find half of them have gotten married to randomly generated sims, moved out, and/or had several babies. Hell, there are even servos coming out of the woodwork! There are three households comprised of JUST servos in my 'other households' list.

Neighborhood stories are not active for the Sims in "My Households." Yet cats and toddlers are being adopted. Yes, I made sure it's off. I have ensured the box is not checked to activate story mode.

No Mods. No CC and on PC.

  • Now I seem to have a mass adoption of ghost children happening.  C'mon man, how long is this invasive feature going to wreak havoc? I hate Neighborhood Stories so **bleep** much.

Over a year and this "feature" is buggier than Wedding Stories! Last night I closed my game after several hours of play. Return this afternoon and EVERY. PREVIOUSLY. VACANT. LOT. in EVERY. WORLD are now populated with random Sims. I'm going through every one evicting them. Seriously, just kill the feature until you get it right!  (Few things get me angry and this just ticked me way off.)

Edited to Add: Just looked at the Households... Grand Duke Capp moved to Nordhaven to reside with Urbane Housesharers. That just boogered my entire Royalty & Legacy royal system. Messed up an entire lineage.
