Can't save rooms with photos or paintings from reference in them

I'm playing on Mac and I can't save any rooms with paintings from reference or photos in them. I've been having a separate problem with paintings from my legacy save going blank after some time, and the solution I saw online was to save the paintings to my library in a room to replace them if something happens. However, I can't save any room with paintings from reference in it. I'll save the room and then it's just not in my library. Other rooms save just fine, including rooms with other types of paintings or child drawings, but not any painting or photo that requires you to take a picture. The only mod I have is MCCC but I don't think that's the cause. Is this an intentional feature? It would be quite annoying if it is because it's the only fix to my disappearing paintings problem. I'm not trying to upload it to the gallery, I just want to protect my Sims' paintings.
