I have the same issue. I tried downloading the original pets from the gallery and adding them back into the family. Oddly enough the game labeled them as corrupted no matter who I downloaded them from and proceeded to place the big red x over them insisting I delete them before I could use not only that world but for awhile the whole game then after a repair just that world.
That's very concerning that would corrupt your game. I hope they can fix it soon! And with current saves!
