LunarBritney has made a mod fix for this on Mod the sims right now. So if you're a PC player you can get a fix for this until Maxis fixes it. LunarBritney also found out why this has happened. Edit. The mod just came out by the way.

Reading the why and how this bug happened over on the mod fix page has me shaking my head. Seriously unbelievable. Yet I'm not surprised. Thank you for sharing this.
