Ok. So I played around with a new test game, because the first household I played with in the in the "tent's don't work" save had a dog.
No pet = ultra sleep time works for tents
Has a pet = ultra sleep time stops working for tents if pet is present, but works if pet is not present - e.g. on an away lot
Delete pet (😢 sorry. - it's a test game) = ultra sleep time works on home lot, but not in Granite Falls or just randomly placed in another world. Maybe because of NPC's wondering around.
It's been a long time since I played with tents, so maybe I just haven't noticed any of this.
